This one is mine. I built BackdropBoost because I saw the same problem over and over working with e-commerce clients: product photography is expensive, slow, and hard to scale. A single professional photoshoot costs $200-500+ per image. You need studios, props, lighting, photographers, and weeks of coordination. For a small e-commerce seller with hundreds of SKUs, that math doesn't work. I wanted to build something that makes professional product imagery accessible to anyone with a phone and a white background.
The Challenge
E-commerce sellers need professional-looking product images to compete, but traditional photography is out of reach for most. A single styled product shot can cost hundreds of dollars. Maintaining visual consistency across a catalog of hundreds or thousands of products is nearly impossible without a dedicated studio. And every time you want to test a different visual style or seasonal theme, you're starting from scratch. The result: most small sellers use plain white background photos and hope for the best.
What I Built
BackdropBoost is a full-stack SaaS application. Users upload a product photo (typically white background), describe the scene they want, and the AI generates a professional lifestyle image in seconds. The platform handles everything from background removal to scene generation to final delivery. It supports bulk processing for large catalogs, offers standard and premium quality tiers, and uses a credit-based pricing model that keeps per-image costs under $0.35.

The Solution
I built the entire platform end to end — Next.js 15 frontend, Supabase backend, fal.ai for image generation, Clerk for auth, Stripe for payments. The core challenge was making AI-generated backgrounds look natural with the original product. I iterated through multiple generation approaches, built a sequence-based pipeline for multi-stage refinement, and added bulk processing so sellers could handle entire catalogs. Launched with a credit-based model, gathered feedback from 64+ users and 121 feedback entries, and used that data to identify the core reliability issue: prompt matching and product preservation. The product works — the iteration continues.
A fully production-deployed SaaS application with auth, payments, AI generation, and image storage. Built solo from zero to paying customers. 106 monthly active users and $164 MRR at peak. User feedback analysis drove a focused roadmap on generation quality and prompt reliability.
