AI will only take your job if you are in the bottom left corner. Whatever you do, don't be in the bottom left corner. Avoid it at all cost.
I share this as a reaction to the fear-mongering that keeps going viral. The only thing I hate more than AI Bros is people who use fear when they post about AI.
Let me bring a small ray of sunshine to that conversation.
The quadrant

Two axes. X-axis is your craft skill โ how good you are at your actual job. Y-axis is your AI skill โ how effectively you use AI tools.
Four quadrants. Four types of people. The goal is top right. Here's how to get there from wherever you are.
Bottom left: Dead Weight
First, put ego away and be honest enough to admit that you are not really good at the job you do now. Whether you're a Google Ads specialist, lawyer, or developer.
AI is an enhancer. It enhances the good by 10x, but that is also true for the other side. If you start using AI without fundamental knowledge of your own craft, all AI will do is 10x the "bad" in you.
And puff โ you just became a Slop Cannon.
The fix: Learn your craft first. There are no shortcuts here.
Top left: Slop Cannon
Congratulations, you started using AI. But at the moment all you create is slop. We don't need that.
Put ego aside, admit that you need to get better, and get to work. Go back to the basics and master the fundamentals. You are already in a good position โ you use AI, you just need to get better at your craft.
In the short term you are safe. Since you use AI, most people will think you know what you're doing. Until they discover the slop you create :D
The fix: Master the fundamentals of your domain. AI amplifies what's already there.
Bottom right: Steady Hands
You are in a prime position. You are already appreciated and valued for what you do. You generate a lot of value.
Now all you need to do is start using AI. Buy a $20 Claude account and start translating your good skills into AI-ready steps.
Translate your SOPs into skills. Turn your processes into workflows and agents.
The only option for this group is to win if you start using AI in the near future. The longer you wait, the bigger the risk of falling into the "Dead Weight" category.
Not because of bad quality work. You will just become slow.
The fix: Start today. Your craft knowledge is the hard part โ and you already have it.
Top right: Turbo Brain
You are great at your craft AND you use AI effectively. This is the goal.
Your only risk? Getting comfortable. The moment you stop sharpening your fundamental skills, you slide into Slop Cannon territory. The moment you stop learning new AI capabilities, you fall back to Steady Hands.
Keep sharpening the skills that made you a Turbo Brain in the first place. Good fundamental skills combined with AI mastery โ that's what keeps you ahead.
The fix: Don't stop. Keep sharpening both sides.
The takeaway
AI doesn't replace skill. It amplifies it. Good or bad, whatever you feed it gets multiplied.
The people who should worry are the ones who aren't good at their craft AND aren't learning AI. Everyone else has a clear path forward.
Pick your quadrant. Be honest about where you are. Then move.
